AdWall/FileWall/LinkWall for Novell
BorderManager - a suite for blocking advertising, defined
file types and unsuitable websites
Version 1.20
by Connectotel
AdWall is a solution to the increasing problem
of Internet banner advertising. Internet banner advertising
appears on many sites and represents an issue for the business
world for the following reasons:
- Advertising is a distraction.
- Advertising images take up valuable bandwidth on the
local network.
- Advertising wording may display spurious warning messages,
mislead the computer user into believing there is a problem
with their computer and generate unnecessary support calls.
- Clicking on advertisements displayed in the browser
may take users to non-business related or undesirable
sites.
AdWall resolves this problem by blocking the display of advertising
graphics from known advertising host sites.
FileWall is a solution to the problem of users downloading
file content that is likely to be a risk to the network, or
take up large amounts of bandwidth or disk space. FileWall
resolves this problem by blocking the download of files with
specified file types. For example, FileWall can block all
MP3, WAV, ZIP and EXE files.
LinkWall is a solution to the issue of blocking access
to unwanted websites.
The advantages of using LinkWall compared with other third-party
solutions include:
- LinkWall is the only solution for Novell BorderManager
which can make use of public domain blocking lists,
such as the squidGuard Blacklist and DMOZ lists.
- LinkWall does not require expensive ongoing subscriptions
to maintain proprietary site blocking lists.
All these solutions have the common benefits that:
- The list of files and sites blocked is completely
open to inspection and can be easily added to or edited
by the Administrator.
- They operate in conjunction with your existing Novell
BorderManager software and do not require additional server
or gateway hardware.
- They are easy to install and configure.
- Once deployed, the software can be left running without
any further intervention from the Administrator.
- They integrate with your existing Novell administration
tools.
