We have been asked by many customers whether
we will have an "update" to the GroupWise 7 Upgrade
Guide for Service Pack 1. After much contemplation, we have
decided that there are simply not enough changes to warrant
updating the book. Rather, we have decided to simply outline
the changes here that need to be made for the upgrade. The
following information assumes that you are going to upgrade
directly from your former GroupWise version to GroupWise
7 SP1.
If you are looking for the GroupWise 7
Upgrade Guide, you can find it here.
Creating the Master Software Distribution
Directory
Chapter 3 begins the actual "work"
of the upgrade, and here is where the major change to the
installation will be encountered. Download the Service Pack
files from the Novell site (http://support.novell.com/filefinder/20641/index.html).
Then on page 29, change Step 4 to:
4. Extract the contents of the service
pack into the directory you have chosen as the Software
Distribution Directory, making certain that the directories
directly under the SDD location are the /admin /agents,
etc. directories from the SP.
5. From the original GroupWise 7 CD, copy
the /domain and /po directories into the SDD location, overwriting
the contents of the existing /domain and /po directories
that were created when you extracted the SP. Do not overwrite
newer files.
The existing Step 5 on page 29 will now
be irrelevant, as the SP includes the /client directory
as well, so this step can be ignored.
Follow the guide from this point on, using
this SDD as your installation location. There are only a
few other SP1 considerations, which are listed below.
ConsoleOne Snapins
It is very important that you only use
GW7SP1 ConsoleOne snapins to administer a GW7SP1 domain.
This is due to how some addressing issues were changed for
SP1. The changes and the dangers are outlined in the readme
for GW7SP1. If you wish, you can even lock out older versions
of ConsoleOne by going to Tools|GroupWise System Operations|System
Preferences|Admin Lockout Settings.
Upgrading the GWIA
Chapter 7 covers upgrading the GroupWise
Internet Agent. With SP1 Novell is moving the GWIA settings
from the gwia.cfg ino the wpdomain.db file so that the GWIA
will follow the same pattern as other agents (i.e., reading
its settings directly from the wpdomain.db file). The gwia.cfg
can still be used to "override" settings, but
the preferred method will be to have the settings in the
wpdomain.db file. While in the past we have recommended
using the /copyonly switch for an upgrade, this migration
of settings will not happen unless you run a standard GWIA
installation.
We hope that these few recommendations
for upgrading directly to GW7SP1 will assist you in your
upgrade. Please be sure to let us know if you have any further
questions!
